Flashblock is a flash blocker extension that allows you to block Flash animations on websites. Flash animations can create unwanted distractions prevent you from concentrating on reading the article on the website. In addition, flash content takes up a lot of bandwidth. Thus, it will take a long time for the page to load if your internet connection is not good. This is a great extension for those who regularly visit sites with heavy flash content.
Flashblock is able to block flash content created in Macromedia and Adobe flash software. It can block shockwave as well as authorwave flash content.After installing Flashblock, you will notice that the F logo placeholder is on all the areas where the flash content used to be.
If you hover your mouse cursor to the F logo, the F logo will be transformed into a play button. When you click on the play button, the flash content will play normally as it would when there is no placeholder. Flashblocker only block flash content and it does not block content that are not flash such as images and animations.
You can add sites that you want to allow flash into the whitelist. Flasblocker tabbed options has a checkbox that allows you to block Microsoft Silverlight. The addon does not cause the webpage to hang or load slowly. Flashblock add-on is available for a number of web browsers including Mozilla Firefox, Flock, SeaMonkey and Netscape.
